· The first result is a Marketing Magazine article explaining Chris’ promotion to the top marketing job at Skoda UK in December 09 complete with a photograph of the man himself.
· The second result takes us to the profile of a Chris Newitt on Facebook which may or may not be our Chris.
· The third result takes us to ratemyprofessor.com and a Chris Newitt who is a professor at the University of British Columbia.
· Fourth is Chris’ LinkedIn page where he has 35 connections.
· The fifth link refers to Chris Newitt the professor and takes us to the psychology faculty page for the University of British Columbia.
Verdict
Considering that there are several other Chris Newitts represented on the web, Chris has done very well to secure the first Google search result for his name thanks to the Marketing Magazine article. Although Google does bring up a Twitter result for Chris Newitt, the profile @Christwitnewitt does not appear to belong to our Chris. Although Chris is the highest ranking Chris Newitt on LinkedIn, he still only has 35 connections. A higher number would give a better reflection of his high status within the marketing world as the marketing director at Skoda.
Action
With no obvious social media presence, Chris might like to consider dipping his toe into social media waters, even if it this is only to follow a few key individuals from his industry on Twitter and keep an eye on what people are saying about Skoda online. Also, as mentioned before, a few more LinkedIn connections wouldn’t go amiss. While the marketing magazine article is a great start, there are many other outlets around for marketing folk to raise their profiles. Chris should consider writing a letter to another trade title like Revolution or guest posting on a few trade and vertical blogs if he wants to increase his online profile further.
